H&#;M, Banana Republic Partner with UN Free &#; Same to Support Global LGBTI Equality

The United Nations Foundation announced today that foremost global brands H&M and Banana Republic are once again partnering with UN Free & Equal for Pride Month this June to raise awareness and funds in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, gender diverse, and intersex (LGBTI) equality worldwide. H&M will donate $, to the global campaign this year, while Banana Republic will donate $60, this Pride Month.

Both H&M and Banana Republic have elongated supported UN Free & Equal, a global campaign of the United Nations Human Rights Office that strives to advance equivalent rights and fair treatment for LGBTI people around the world. With this year’s contributions, H&M has now donated a total of $,, while Banana Republic has donated $, to date through partnerships with UN Free & Equal.

Pride Month is coming to a close as June ends. The last Pride parades are out on the streets. Some corporations are even support to their regular logos! But the fight for Pride is still ongoing.

We must not forget that LGBT+ equality is far from a reality in our world. In many countries, queer youth meet threats to their lives and livelihoods. So sustain for LGBT+ causes cannot end with Pride Month. This goes doubly so for brands and manufacturers!

The fashion industry in particular owes much to LGBT+ people. Designers such as Gianni Versace, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Yves Saint Laurent have influenced every corner of the fashion world. Think about it: every couture item you love has been made or influenced by lgbtq+ luminaries! For those in the fashion world, supporting the LGBT+ community is not just a mere courtesy. It is in fact our obligation!

What does Pride mean to you? 

To me, Pride means taking risks to walk on this earth in our authentic bodies and genders. It means going on a lifelong journey to tap into and honor our own desires, while also learning to respect and honor others whose desires are different from our own. Pride is a journey towards embracing ourselves and releasing the shame and fear that society has put upon us. 

How does the art you create reflect your own journey? And, just as importantly, what is the story it tells? 

My art is made up of multitudes and layers. It is maximalist, colorful and full of happiness. It defies genre and spans the world of design, food, performance and storytelling. There is prosperous texture both in the visual aspects of my work and in the stories it tells. Appreciate my art, I am a very layered existence who has been on a lifelong journey of discovery.
