Baltimore gay pride

For 50 years, Baltimore Lgbtq+ fest has been advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. That advocacy continued with a rally near the Washington Monument in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. 

Cleo Manago, the Pride Center of Maryland CEO, said there was a lot of pain and suffering. Two years after the rally, activists formed the Gay Group Center of Baltimore.

"This people was in the shadows," Manago said. "This was a community, regardless of race, that was fighting for its life."

Baltimore Movement has evolved

Manago said the Gay Community Center of Baltimore started as a small group of people looking for community. It later evolved, but Manago said the group initially lacked diversity. 

"When it first came into being, it focused on men, and it primarily focused on white gay men," Manago said.

Then, the group became the Gay and Woman-loving woman Community Center of Baltimore after women fought for space within the group. It became the Event Center of Maryland in 2019.

As Manago looked through archives from the University of Baltimore, he found images within the Pride collection.

The 2025 Baltimore Pride Pride will be held on Saturday, June 14, in the heart of the city. 

This year's parade celebrates 50 years of Baltimore's Pride movement and highlights the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. 

The parade will also bring road closures and parking restrictions. Here's what you need to know: 

Baltimore Pride Parade route 

Baltimore's Pride Parade will initiate at noon at the intersection of Charles Lane and North Avenue. 

The march will continue north on Charles Street and terminate at 29th Street. 

A block party will kick off at the end of the route at 2900 N. Charles Street around 3 p.m. with reside music, food and local vendors. 

Road closures and parking restrictions during Baltimore Pride 

Several road closures and parking restrictions will be in place during Baltimore's Identity festival Parade and block party. 

On June 14, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Charles Street will be closed from Art Museum Drive to W. 29th Street, according to the Baltimore Department of Transportation. 

The right lane and bike lane on 29th Road from N Charles Lane to Wyman Park Operate will also be closed.
