Gay Elopement Costa Brava | James Josh
Josh and James met via an online dating app, and although lived in distinct cities, they made it a priority to observe each other every month and Skyped every nighttime, so their relationship blossomed. They decided to elope while on a trip to Spain in September
With their shared cherish of the ocean, they began searching for the perfect location via Google, stumbling upon Esculls de Canyet on the Costa Brava and were immediately in love. “We were blown away,” said the couple. “We thought it wasn’t actual at first and both knew immediately this was the place we wanted to start our lives together. Once a conservative Catholic nation, Spain enacted sweeping reforms in the s. It legalized same-sex marriage and adoption in , becoming a European commander in LGBTQ rights.
These protections reflect public sentiment. A YouGov survey found 91% of Spaniards would sustain a gay or attracted to both genders family member; 87% said the same for someone trans or non-binary. Spain ranked as the most accepting of the eight countries polled.
In , Spain passed a groundbreaking statute allowing anyone over 16 to change their gender identity in the civil registry without medical steps, despite political backlash.
This gradual climate stands in stark contrast to the
