Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is arguably the most popular book of 2023, and at extended last I read it myself to see what the fuss was all about. For my funds, it’s worth a interpret but not worth the hype.

I’m late to the party, but I’m finally here. As a bookseller, I’ve had a front row seat to the explosion of popularity that Fourth Wing has enjoyed since its release in May 2023. Like the rest of the nature, I was obsessed with the gorgeous dragon style on the sprayed edges. Unlike the rest of the world, I didn’t buy the book on the strength of that design. I’m cheap and couldn’t find it in my heart to delve into my pockets intense enough to drop fresh hardcover prices on a book I knew so little about. I decided to wait until some of my coworkers had read it and could give me their reviews. When the reviews came in, they were all raves. Still, I hesitated. All the people raving about the book were big into romance, and I hadn’t heard from any people who primarily read fantasy. When the first printing ran out, I found that a lot of my interest in Fourth Wing was dependent on those sprayed edges; without them, I was far less driven to read it.

Then my non-fantasy,

I’m So Relieved Onyx Storm Took One Character In An Unexpected Direction (& Gave Them The Story They Deserve)

I am so relieved that Onyx Stormgaveone of my favorite characters the storyline they deserved by going in an unexpected but not unwelcome direction. Though I had some problems with Onyx Storm, I was so happy to see that Rebecca Yarros was capable to give audiences some of the moments we were hoping for. Not only did I acquire the sweet interactions between Violet and Xaden I needed after Iron Flame, but I got to see the evolution of several other characters in this installment of The Empyrean Series.

While I understand that this series is predominantly Violet's story and that her efforts and love for Xaden are the series' driving factors, Yarros does both a great job at making you care for the side characters in her story but also does little with them. The first two books only gave the other characters small moments, so I was happy to see that Onyx Storm fixed Fourth Wings' problems in regard to this. I was especially glad to see that Onyx Storm did this for my favorite side ethics Ridoc, expanding his role in the series.
